What could you do with more time?

When visiting a client recently, he seemed distracted. “Too busy to think” is how he put it.  He said “it has been this way now for over a year and that he didn’t see it getting any better any time soon”.  When I asked how business was going, he jumped in happily saying “we are doing great, it’s so busy, and we can’t keep up with it. I can’t complain!”

But he was complaining.

The company have been so busy that he has had no time for planning, strategy, costings etc. They have been reacting to business and stumbling through very well. His frustration was knowing there are better ways of using their systems, processes and labour force, just finding the time to do it.

It’s time to innovate and figure out new and better ways of getting the job done.  Whether it’s optimising the production line, balancing work flows and labour, or incorporating new technology, it’s an opportunity to build a future, not only his organisation, but the industry as a whole.

I asked some simple questions:

What would you do with more hours in the week?

  • Focus on core business and customers, not internal relations

What would you achieve?

  • Reach out to NEW customers
  • Produce more products
  • Sell more
  • Reduce costs
  • Increase profits

What stops you from achieving those things now?

  • People management
  • Administration
  • Planning and scheduling
  • Costing and reporting
  • Recruitment and attrition
  • Training and development

It got me thinking, what could you do with more time?

Work ON not IN your business.

Based on an article on Bulldog Reporter, 68.1% of managers and decision makers work “in” their business, while only 31.9% of them are working “on” their business. The biggest identified time wasters for business owners are day to day people management, emails, and administrative tasks. Working on the business took 2nd place: setting goals and strategic planning on how to improve their business.

Many business managers and owners say that the success they desire is outside their current scope.  There just aren’t enough hours in the week.

How do you get your time back?

One solution is to outsource your workforce.  Free up management, HR, accounts and payroll to work on the core business.  This is adopted by many strategic manufacturing success stories

Build a partnership and workplace culture that can:

  • Effectively attract, engage and retain a diverse and demanding workforce
  • Use data to inform and drive smarter decision making
  • Free up and cement your HR’s position in the driving seat for transformation within your organisation, with the power to bring about real changes
  • Cut accounting workload to allow time for strategic business developments

On further discussion, we found his HR and Senior Production team felt exactly the same way “great ideas, just no time to do it”.

They dismissed agency recruitment as an added cost and never realised the value in a contingency workforce solution tailored to you – a partner for recruitment, HR, payroll, accounts, reporting, strategy planning, training and development all under one roof and one account manager.  A partner that focused on your business with a 100% guarantee.

We are currently working with his team on how we can help them achieve their goals.
