The Digital Projects Officer will work as part of the Library Heritage Collections and Digitisation team, and the main purpose of this role is to assist in the development and delivery the Library’s digital publishing services to maximise the exposure and impact of our Heritage Collections. The DPO achieves this through digitisation work, and the creation and enhancement of metadata to maximise the discovery of the digitised collections
This requires a mix of project work and responding to researcher’s requests for digitisation for specific purposes (teaching / publication / exhibition).
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Assisting the creation of digital collections and digital exhibitions
- Create, enhance and publish metadata for digital collections and exhibitions to ensure discoverability, preservation and access
- Assist in digital promotion of Heritage Collections projects as required
- Digitise Archives and Special Collections material according to a prioritised programme
- Apply defined workflows and standards to digitisation
- Ensure appropriate equipmentand preservation options are selected for each digitisation
- Carry out post-processing as required(e.g. deskew, sharpen, crop of images, OCR for example)
- Track, document, and ensure the appropriate storageof digitised material
- Perform quality control reviews of digitised material
- Apply policies to ensure effective rights management
- Measure, quantify, track and report digitisation activities by recording work steps and statistics of production and quality
- Work closely with the internal team to ensure the successful delivery of content
Essential Criteria
- Experience of providing data input and administrative functions in support of a database
- Experience in the professional use of digital image processing software
- Experience using photographic and digital imaging equipment
- A proven track record in producing accurate, high-quality work to tight deadlines
- Self-motivation, initiative and a flexible approach to change and work demands
- Analytical and business-like approach
- Delivery focused and results driven
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, including attention to detail.
- Excellent IT skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Enthusiasm and passion for heritage collections
