Great news for UK/Northern Ireland Passport holders applying for Australian Working Holiday Visa (WHV)

The Australian Government have announced enhanced pathways for UK/Northern Ireland passport holders from July 1st 2024.

The new arrangements will remove the specified work requirements.

From 1 July 2024, UK passport holders will be eligible to be granted Working Holiday visas up to a total of three years without having to meet any specified work requirements.

This means that there is no longer a requirement to complete specified rural or regional work to be eligible for a 2nd or 3rd WHV.

These arrangements are only available to applicants who use a passport issued by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to lodge their visa application.

Maximum stay of three years

Working Holiday visa holders can currently stay three years in Australia. This stay consists of three separate visas granted for 12 months each (not counting any ‘COVID-19 affected visa’). These arrangements have not changed.

UK passport holders can choose to apply for a first, second and third Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa at any time while they still meet the eligible age requirement. They do not need to stay in Australia for three years in a row. Applicants can lodge applications for second and third Working Holiday (subclass 417) visas in or outside Australia.

If a UK passport holder has already spent one or two years in Australia on a Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa before the new arrangements commence, they can apply for the remaining visa(s) under the new arrangements on or after 1 July 2024. This enables them to stay a maximum of three years in Australia.

This also applies to UK passport holders who previously entered Australia on a Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa using a different eligible passport.
