The role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-focused Payroll Specialist to join our payroll team. This is a varied role with responsibility for delivering accurate, compliant, and timely end-to-end payroll services across a portfolio of clients, including weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls.

This is also an opportunity to contribute beyond day-to-day processing. The Payroll Specialist will support continuous improvement across the team, help develop junior colleagues and contribute to payroll projects, system enhancements and improved client reporting and service delivery.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage end-to-end processing of multiple client payrolls across weekly, fortnightly, and monthly pay cycles, ensuring all payrolls are accurate and completed within agreed deadlines.
  • Coordinate, review, and validate payroll data received from clients, following up on queries or missing information where required.
  • Process payroll calculations including salaries, overtime, allowances, bonuses, deductions, pensions, and Benefit in Kind (BIK), as applicable.
  • Manage starters and leavers and ensure relevant Revenue Payroll Notifications (RPNs) and payroll records are correctly maintained.
  • Complete Revenue Online Service (ROS) submissions and ensure payrolls comply with PAYE Modernisation requirements and current Irish payroll legislation.
  • Apply PAYE, PRSI and other statutory deductions accurately and maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislative and Revenue changes affecting payroll.
  • Prepare payroll reports, payment information and supporting documentation, including gross-to-net and payroll liability information where required.
  • Act as a knowledgeable point of contact for clients, responding professionally and promptly to day-to-day payroll, Revenue and benefit-related queries.
  • Provide clear guidance to clients on their payroll responsibilities and relevant Revenue and legislative obligations.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality and controls when handling sensitive employee, payroll and client information.
  • Support and assist in the training and development of junior team members, sharing payroll knowledge and promoting consistent best practice.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, reporting and client service, and actively support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to payroll projects, system implementations, testing and process changes as required.
  • Carry out other payroll-related duties that may arise from time to time.

What We’re Looking For

  • A minimum of 3 years’ payroll experience in a similar role.
  • Previous experience within a payroll bureau or outsourced payroll environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge of Irish payroll legislation, PAYE, PRSI, Benefit in Kind and Revenue requirements.
  • Practical experience using ROS and electronic payment/EFT processes.
  • Experience with payroll systems such as Sage Micropay, BrightPay and/or Quantum would be advantageous.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, with confidence working with payroll data and reports.
  • An interest in technology, automation and the practical use of AI to improve payroll processes and service delivery.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy, quality and confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple payroll deadlines, prioritise effectively and take ownership of work through to completion.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to investigate payroll discrepancies and resolve client queries.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • A proactive, organised and collaborative approach, with a willingness to support colleagues and contribute to the wider team.
