Welding Course GRETB

Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB) will be running a Welding Course for Jobseekers in Galway starting in September 2018. 

The aim of the course is to up-skill and accredit, crafts-persons and senior apprentices to the first level of MMA FlatHorizontal welding of plate using MMA (stick welding) & Oxy-Acetyline Welding processes. Welders Approval Certification in MMA process EN287 – 111 series is provided. The course also facilitates job seekers to update their C.V. and to practice and review their interview techniques and job seeking skills.

Entry Requirements:

  • Education: Junior Certificate standard or its equivalent
  • Aptitude: Good spatial aptitude Good eye/hand co-ordination Good manual dexterity
  • Previous Experience: The course is suitable for craft-persons recently made redundant within the engineering and allied trades who wish to develop their basic welding skills.

Learning Outcomes:

State the rules and safety regulations of the training location. Produce a structured and logical curriculum vitae and complete an effective job application form. Practice and review interviewing skills and techniques and develop a realistic and focused career plan. Identify and obtain appropriate employment or progress to further training or education in line with a career plan. Manually lift and move objects and loads safely. Work on construction sites without being a risk to themselves or to others. Note: As an 8 hour duration within one day, is a mandatory requirement to complete this Safepass module, it is important that the training centre's extend their day to 8 hours in order to accommodate this requirement. Select and mount Abrasive Wheels safely in accordance with current and relevant safety legislation and guidance documentation HSG 17. Weld arc fillet welds in horizontal, vertical and overhead positions to complete 'lapp fillet', 'tee fillet' and 'butt' joints. Demonstrate a broad range of occupational competencies in a real work environment.

Beauty Therapist Traineeship

Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB) will be running a Beauty Therapist Traineeship for Jobseekers in Galway starting in November 2018. 

The aim of this training programme is to enable trainees to acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes to work effectively as a beauty therapist. The programme aims to enable the learner through practical experience to integrate the theoretical and practical aspects of working in the beauty industry in an environment of equality and inclusion. Entry Requirements:

  • Education: Either of the following is essential: Educated to Leaving Certificate Pass or Honors Standard with Biology or another relevant science subject. OR Previously achieved an ITEC / CIBTAC module in the Beauty Therapy field.
  • Aptitude: Demonstrate evidence of an interest in and knowledge of the industry. Good verbal and written command of the English language is required. Ability to apply themselves to practical tasks. Good concentration also required as is an ability to study and focus on learning.
  • Previous Experience: Not necessary but any previous experience in a salon is an advantage.

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this programme learners will be able to: 

  • Plan and achieve realistic work goals 
  • Understand the legal and health and safety and professional requirements involved in a beauty therapy business and understand how to operate a successful business.

Accounting Technician Ireland - Year 2

Accounting Technician Course GRETB

Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB) will be running an Accounting Technician Ireland - Year 2 Course for Jobseekers in Galway starting in September 2018. 

The training course has been designed to provide business with personnel who are skilled in accounting techniques.

The aim of the course is to provide the learners with the skills, knowledge and competence in financial accounting and budgeting; costing and credit control; payroll and tax returns for various types of business and to develop their personal effectiveness and job seeking skills to enable them to either work on their own or obtain employment as accounting technicians.

Accounting Technicians will possess the knowledge, skills and competencies to either work on their own or alongside professional accountants. They will find work in all types of organisations and are widely employed throughout the public sector, industry and in priviate accounting practices.

Entry Requirements:

  • Education: Leaving Certificate with 5 passes on ordinary level papers at Grade D or better or 4 passes of which at least two are on higher level papers at Grade D or better. Passes must be obtained in English and at least one subject from Mathematics (Ordinary Alternative Course not accepted) or Accountancy. OR Mature persons who have gained suitable approved relevant experience and who are eligible for enrolment as student members of Accounting Technicians Ireland on the basis of their age and experience rather than their educational attainments. Additionally, applicants must have achieved a pass in at least 3 subjects in First Year Accounting Technicians Ireland course, including both Financial Accounting I and Taxation I.   • Aptitude: Good verbal / numerical / clerical aptitude
  • Previous Experience: Previous experience in book-keeping and / or accountancy desirable.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate that they have built on the competencies gained in Financial Accounting I from the first year of the Accounting Technicians course and develop a knowledge and understanding of more advanced accounting issues. 
  • Demonstrate that they have built on the competencies gained in Taxation I module from the first year of the Accounting Technicians course and develop a knowledge and understanding of more advanced taxation issues for individuals, businesses and corporate entities. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge and have practical experience of effectively using standard software packages used in the business world, particularly those commonly used by accountants. Learners will be enabled to reach a level of proficiency in the use of these packages that will render them effective in the workplace. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge and technical competency in the area of management accounting to support business functions, activities and decision-making. 
  • Plan and achieve realistic work goals. 
  • Demonstrate a broad range of occupational competencies in a real work environment.
