Position Summary: 

This role will liaise between Engineering, Test and IT teams in order to set up, maintain and improve the databases and applications that support the Factory Operations as well as give second and third-level support to users. This position involves various levels of writing, testing and maintaining software solutions and systems of the Shop Floor Control system (SFC). This position is also involved in the design, performance optimization and implementation of the operating systems on various platforms to ensure solutions are meeting the needs of the end-user. 

This position will report to the Engineering Manager. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides second and third-level support to the users of the Shop Floor Control system and other internal applications.
  • Liaises with the business community to understand business processes and defines how software tools can be leveraged to optimize the business process.
  • Develops prototypes; codes, tests, debugs and documents programs.
  • Defines and develops systems plans, models and solutions.
  • Prepares test data and test methodologies
  • Trains users on the operation of applications and databases.
  • Escalates and keeps track of any problems that cannot be fixed locally.
  • Provides timely resolution of issues as they arise.
  • Works with the team to ensure maximum availability of equipment and processes.
  • Provides technical support and direction to production supervisors and operators.
  • Provides timely resolution of issues as they arise.
  • Maintains compliance with existing Documentation Control procedures.
  • Adheres to corporate policies in change management, incident management, and information security.

Core Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:

  • Technical Competence with a hands-on practical approach.
  • In-depth knowledge of development in an NT Client/Server Platform.
  • In-depth knowledge of object-oriented languages (e.g. Java, C#) and good knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. Visual Basic, VB Script, JavaScript).
  • Ability to analyse and understand business requirements and to design solution specifications.
  • Capable of reading and understanding product/test specifications.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Experience liaising with experts in different fields in order to establish optimal solutions.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in relational database systems (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.).
  • Good understanding of desktop hardware/software, networks, and infrastructure.
  • Strong project planning, project control, and communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Typical Experience/Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or other technical degrees with computer-related experience or
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working in an ISO-compliant environment.
  • Manufacturing experience in a high volume environment.
  • Experience in relational database systems (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, etc.).
  • Experience with Shop Floor Control systems at a distinct advantage.
