Information Technology Services Officer-Fluent Irish
Location-Furbo, Co Galway
Contract Term: Fixed-Term Purpose Contract – 1 year
Role Purpose: To maintain, manage and effectively support the organisation’s IT infrastructure and services, ensuring security, reliability and optimal performance of systems to meet the organisation’s operational needs.
To this end, the following are the main duties of the appointee in this role:
Main Duties: Operations and Support
- Conduct regular checks on systems to ensure that IT and communication services are functioning properly and available every day
- Identify and effectively resolve issues related to service outages as they are raised with the Division
- Conduct regular monitoring of systems to keep them safe from virus attacks, malware, and spyware, as far as possible
- Perform regular backups to ensure that current copies of systems and data are always available Properly maintain user accounts by creating, modifying, or removing them as necessary
- Work with the Digital Network to provide IT support
Maintenance
- The IT Services Officer will implement critical service patches (e.g., security) on systems in a timely manner and upgrade administrative tools as necessary
- Help ensure that all parts of the ICT infrastructure are covered under maintenance contracts with suppliers Ensure that the organization’s ICT infrastructure is flexible and improve it as necessary
- Keep computer rooms, communication cabinets, computer equipment, and cables clean and in good order
- Ensure that an up-to-date record of ICT procedures and necessary information to provide IT service is maintained In cooperation with the Chief Information Officer, test Disaster Recovery Plans and backup/security systems
- periodically to ensure they are functioning effectively
- Help the Chief Information Officer ensure that ICT policies, standards, and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated
- Keep accurate records of any maintenance performed on the ICT infrastructure Keep an accurate record (Asset Register) of all ICT equipment
- Help the Chief Information Officer deal with issues raised by any ICT audit
Service Provision
- Provide ICT services to new staff members and make any other necessary changes across the organization Participate in ICT projects and provide advice on specific ICT and security issues
- Provide systems for new services and initiatives
- Consult with external suppliers and consultants to implement new infrastructure and systems Keep up to date with cybersecurity developments
Academic Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, software engineering or related field
Knowledge, Skills and Experience These are the desirable requirements for this post:
- Proven experience in managing and maintaining IT and communication systems
- Good knowledge of server systems, storage networks, backup facilities and networks (WIFI, LAN, broadband) Good skills in resolving technical problems and ability to identify and resolve problems quickly
- Experience in cybersecurity management and protection against viruses, malware and spyware Knowledge of backup systems and disaster recovery plans
- Experience working with external suppliers and ICT consultants Understanding of ICT policies and standards
- High competence in Irish (as a working language)
- Experience providing support to users in a business environment
